Welcome to the website of “The Elephant”, St Andrews University’s modern languages magazine!
Our first issue will be published on the 1st of November, available here and in print outside the library and at Buchanan.
If you are interested in submitting articles, please get in touch (firstname.lastname@example.org)! Below is a general overview of the sections we will be including so you can get an idea of what kind of things we are looking for.
The deadline for submissions for this issue is the 17th of October.
Features – this issue we would like to do a special on the SLT redundancies – opinions on the decision, plus a page of praise for each SLT (to make them feel supported by the student population)
Travel – tell us about your year abroad, or any desolate place you think we should visit
Food and Drink — recipes etc.
Humour – any amusing anecdotes
Politics – anything which will still be current in the coming weeks. We aim to print twice a semester so it needs to be an ongoing issue… e.g. the expulsion of ROMs in France?
Reviews — art exhibitions, books, plays, films, music etc.
Creative writing — poems, short stories etc
Linguistics — etymologies, slang etc.
We will also be including a section for writing in foreign languages.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
